In approximately 7 (seven) months of Covid-19 pandemic, nearly all of activities are being moved to the virtual room including social service activities that was held by Faculty of Psychology Universitas Airlangga. Coming from the increasing number of bullying cases among student, Faculty of Psychology Universitas Airlangga with IGTKI (Indonesia’s Kindergarten Teachers Association) Kecamatan Sumbersari, Jember, Jawa Timur, were running a competencies developing programme titled Steps to Respect: Competencies Developing Programme for Kindergarten Teacher to Prevent Bullying among Students.
This activity was successfully held in September 25-26th through the Zoom online meeting platform and was attended by 26 participants. This competencies developing programme was chaired by Herdina Indrijati, M.Psi., Psikolog. She described that this activity is designed to prevent and to handle bullying cases among students, especially kindergarten students. The lecturer in the Department of Educational and Developmental Psychology herself was telling the participants to not be worry about the technical process and outcomes of the training. The training programme has been modified from the offline to the online form. Furthermore, Herdina convinced that the participants will not lose the meaning of training although it was held virtually.
“We’ve passed a long journey to prepare this activity and to make sure that no one should be worry about what kind of technical process nor the outcomes of this traning will participants get after the training” Herdina said in her opening speech.
The chief of IGTKI Kecamatan Sumbersari, Loeloek Erryka, S.Pd, in her opening speech showed how grateful she was because the Faculty of Psychology Universitas Airlangga prepared the training very well although in the amidst of Covid-19 pandemic. Together with her team, Loeloek will run similar competencies developing programme to the coleagues who have not attended the training so that the knowledge and skill could be transferred widely.
“We’ll run the same training and will invite many more participants so that the knowledge and skill could be transferred to many more teachers out there” Loeloek said.
This two-day activity was not only consist of giving materials from experts, but also pre-test and post-test for both knowledge and skill. Even though the activity was solid, the participants expressed their big enthusiasm during the programme.
“This training is really helpful. We finally understand more how to prevent and handle bullying cases among kindergarten students” Loeloek said at the end of the activity.
The programme was ended by giving the certificates to all of participants. Faculty of Psychology Universitas Airlangga wishes that the training will be beneficial and will help participants to build better understanding for both knowledge and skill for how to prevent and handle bullying cases among students.
