Abstrak

Anxiety experienced by musicians when performing music can affect the performance quality. However, attention regarding music performance anxiety (MPA) is still lacking. Therefore, this study aimed to see if there are differences in MPA levels among Indonesian musicians based on gender, instrument type, performance preparation, performance format, and event format. This study was a cross-sectional survey, using the Kenny Music Performance Anxiety Inventory-Revised (K-MPAI-R). The participants were 237 Indonesian musicians who had performed music. Independent sample t-test and ANOVA test were conducted to test the difference in MPA levels. The analysis concluded that there were differences in MPA levels among Indonesian musicians based on gender (t(235)=-4,02; p<0,001), instrument type (F(6, 230)=2,78; p=0,013), practice frequency (F(2, 234)=5,11; p=0,,007), and practice duration (F(2, 234)=5,92; p=0,003), while performance format and event format did not show significant differences. These findings can be considered for developing music performance anxiety management strategies.
